Body Detox Tips
Body Detox Tips - Spa TreatmentsBy
John Bj KhuA body detox program shouldn't be all about suffering and sacrifice. It should be fun, too! Learn about some of the different spa treatments that you can try to give your natural body detox a boost:
1. The foot bath. So let's discuss your feet for a moment. Your feet? Yes. Many people involved in a whole body detox enjoy a detox foot bath. This is not the same as the plastic vibrating foot bath you got as a gift that you never use. A detox foot bath uses a metal container that puts an slight electric charge in the water. This charge won't hurt you, but it binds to the toxins in your body and transports them out through the pores in your feet. One thing you will notice is that your sinuses will drain almost immediately.
2. Skin brushing. This is a great pick-me-up for any whole body detox. It involves taking a brush with natural bristles and going over your entire body with it. Use a long handled brush. Do it before you shower. Start at the soles of your feet and work your way upward to the top of your head. This stimulates blood circulation and helps get the lymph system going. It also just plain feels good, too.
3. Contrast Showers. These are extremely popular and very easy to do at home. Simply jump in the shower and make it as hot as you can for about 3-5 minutes. This is important in any natural body detox as it helps remove toxins from your body. Next, turn the water to cold for anywhere between 30 seconds and 1 minute. This closes your pores to avoid any other toxins seeping in from the bathroom. It is also very invigorating.
4. Clay Baths. Clay-bentonite clay in particular-is known for it's abilities in drawing toxins out from the body. While you may pay out the nose if you go to a spa for this, there are many versions you can do at home. The advantage of this treatment in your whole body detox is that it can draw metals out of your system that not many other treatments can. If you have never done a clay bath before, you will be surprised by how good it feels.
5. Herbal Steams. Ever hold your head over boiling water with a towel draped over your hair? Herbal treatments work the same, but have the added benefit of using certain plants with known detox properties. Boil up some today, place a couple of drops of essential oils on your forehead, and get to it!
6. Epsom Salt. This old-fashioned remedy is a boost to any whole body detox. Epsom salts supply sulfate to the body to aid in removing toxins. Dissolve some in a hot bath. Finish off with a shower in cold water to close pores to avoid any new toxins coming in. After that, cover up and go to bed so you can sweat toxins out overnight.

Using any and all of the methods above will not only help detox your body but make you feel pampered a little in the process. They are a great way to benefit your health and pamper yourself at the same time.

Sea Salt
Sea Salt Cleanse To Remove Toxins
By Elizabeth Boardman
Aside from using sea salts as an additive to the bath, experts believe that sea salts help remove toxins and alleviate digestive symptoms when taken. Sea salts are also used as laxatives, which is a better choice for those suffering from digestive problems, rather than using the harsh, commercially available laxatives.

Being a necessary chemical for normal body functioning, many sports drinks contain salt since it can be depleted with physical exercise. With this in mind, we must first differentiate natural sea salts from processed and refined salts. Refined salts are removed of its minerals, unlike natural sea salts which have not undergone any refinement process. A sea salt cleanse removes the impurities from the digestive tract while providing the body the necessary minerals that otherwise may not be available in your diet. Do this with proper research and consultation from your doctor, especially those that suffer from severe disorders.
The sea salt cleanse can be easily done, starting with combining 2 teaspoons of unrefined sea salt with 2 quartz of warm water. People who find it hard to drink this should add lemon juice to make it more acceptable to drink. Each person may react differently to the process of using sea salt as laxative in flushing the system. It is best for the drink to be taken in the morning after you're awake. Also, individuals who uses the sea salt cleanse will expect emptying their bowels a few hours they have taken the laxative. Basically the hard part of this is swallowing it down, but you will realize the rewards that you can get from it.
The sea salt cleanse will improve the digestive tract which will eventually lead to improved moods that might have been bothered of the digestive tract problem. Sea salt cleanse is also a common folk remedy for colds and sneezing due to allergic reactions. It is also possible for improved respiratory and sinus functions when using the sea salt cleanse. The cleanse will detoxify the body and balances electrolytes. It may also help normalize the heart rate and soothe muscle pains. Indirect benefits that have been reported includes fresher breath, reduced body odor and improvements to the skin.
Improper digestion may cause individuals to suffer from digestive complaints and fatigue. This might also be linked with the fact that modern diets are usually loaded with fats, chemicals, and toxins that can cause for the digestive tract to work with less efficiency. Sea salt cleanse will be helpful in these situations.

Foot Bath
Detox Foot Bath Review
By Sydnie Andrus
One of the health fads that we are seeing everywhere is detox. The purpose of this article is to take a closer look at detox, and more specifically detoxification through your feet. Why should we detox, is it really necessary? How can foot detox help me?

Let's start out talking about detox in general. Many health specialists have shown that our bodies take in toxins from the harsh environments that we live in. If we want to achieve our optimal health, we must assist our bodies in clearing these toxins. We all know that there are things that we can do to help improve our health, and one of the best ways to cleanse is by using a detox foot bath.
So, why is there so much focus on our feet? The reason that many people prefer to detox through their feet is because it is one of the most effective ways to cleanse your body of toxins. A detox foot bath is not a silly little massaging bucket that we use to pamper our toes... it is actually a bath that uses new-age technology to draw out toxins through your reflexology points in the arch of your foot.
The detox foot bath sends a very small electric current into the water. You will not get hurt from the electric current, because it is very safe. The reason to use this electric current in the water is because it positively charges the ions in the water, which react with the negative toxins in your body to gently draw them out through your pores.
Removing the toxins from your body does many things, including: boosting your immune system, removing heavy metals that have accumulated, and clearing the blockages in your lymphatic system. Your body's pH levels are increased slightly so that your natural cleansing systems can work at their optimal level to clear our those harmful toxins. You will feel more energized, your chronic pain my be lessened, and your overall health will improve.
Detox foot baths implement an innovative technology to cleanse your body and improve your health. Using a detox foot bath from the comfort of your own home will give you the time to relax and improve your health simultaneously.

Privacy Spa
Spa Enclosures
By Yara Thompson
Spas can be a great addition to any home and unless you have your spa out on an open deck it will often times require some type of enclosure for privacy and also for safety if there are children in the home. For the most part, although there are exceptions, a spa enclosure will consist of some type of decorative wooden framework and often resemble the decor of a common gazebo.

While at first glance they can look easy to build they do require some basic know-how and basic carpentry skills. Making sure that you use the correct type of wood for its construction can make all of the difference in the world if you plan on the end results to be attractive and long lasting. 4X8 foot redwood lattice panels work great for creating a screening effect in a spa enclosure but they must be framed in properly or they will begin to fall apart in a relatively short time.
Regular construction grade Douglas Fir does not work well as a material for exterior exposed construction as it will warp and crack when it is exposed to the weather. Himalayan Fir works great for building outdoor decorative structures and this is the type of wood that you will see on the barges and fascias of homes for just this very reason.
People will often gravitate to solid brass screws when building an outdoor decorative structure only to find out the hard way that while they are completely resistant to rust they are inherently weak and don't work well at all for heavy construction. If you are determined to screw your enclosure together than nice galvanized wood screws or heavy brass plated steel screws work best. Also, try to pre-paint as much of the wood as you can while you are building your spa enclosure, because it is so much easier to paint wood laid out on saw horses then after it has been added to a structure.

Detox Bath
The Ultimate Detox Bath
By Elizabeth Boardman
In alternative medicine, toxins are those substances that produce ill-health or sickness to the human body. They can be found anywhere and are often referring to as substances like pesticides on food items, preservatives, and other artificial additives. When these toxins are absorbed by the body, it will result in damage to the body. The damage done by these toxins will impact a person's appearance and affect a person's health, which is worse.

Fact is, that toxins are everywhere. We can get these toxins while walking in the street - even more when we are exposed in a city with polluted air - and even in the water used in our bath & shower - which are supposed to clean us from toxins in the first place although this depends on the quality of water systems in your area.
A bath is still a necessity in cleaning our bodies from toxins and there are ways for it to be a truly cleansing experience. One way of achieving this is through using a filter in the water system. Among the currently available filters in the market, those that uses the process of reverse osmosis are the best option. It uses pressure for water to pass through a membrane, where the toxins are filtered.
Another solution is by using sea salts (commonly referred to as bath salts). These salts will help to soften and condition the water, draw out toxins and impurities from your skin and help heal skin aggravations like rashes, muscle aches and other common skin problems.
After having a true detoxifying bath, you will definitely see and feel the change it has done to you. The more you try to incorporate these baths into your lifestyle, the more you'll see its benefits - the first sign of a healthy body is a healthy skin.

Practical Spa
Hot Tubs - Practical Spa Guide
By Jen Carter
Sometimes after a long hard day there is nothing you want more than to relax, and some people find that the best way to do that is to enjoy a long evening in the hot tub. But before we discuss buying, you need to know the basics. For those who are not familiar with hot tubs, they are large manufactured tubs or pools filled with heated water that allows one to soak or enjoy a massage, as most include massaging jets. Most hot tubs are wooden and include seating for added relaxation.

Photo: www.spashottub.com
Tips on Buying
For those of you who do not have a hot tub, finding the right one can be difficult, especially if you do not know what you are looking for. Hot tubs range in many different styles, brands and prices and knowing what to look for is the first step you need to take when purchasing one. When looking for a hot tub there are some things you need to know. When you hear things like, spa shell, cabinetry, it can get a little confusing, first you need to decide what your personal preferences are.
You can do this by going online to look for hot tubs with added features, such as water jet therapy or even air bubble therapy, also go to the dealer and browse through the different models. You can also test out the hot tubs, and some dealers even allow you to try out the hot tubs before buying. Just be sure to understand what you are buying before you buy, learn about installation and pricing, also learn about energy efficiency and what it will do to your electric bill. Look for a business that is part of the Better Business Bureau.
Installation and preparation
Once you have found the right hot tub for you the first thing you need to do before bringing it home is to prepare. You should remember that the average hot tub weighs an excess of 5000 pounds once filled with water, so this should be taken into careful consideration when planning for your hot tub.
Hot tubs should always be on a level and hard surface, concrete is possibly the best thing on which you can place a hot tub, because it is less likely to shift once the hot tub is in place. A hot tub can be a great addition to your home, just remember that it is a big decision, and it is important to browse and be sure that you have found the one that fits you the best.

Sauna Detoxification
Benefits of Infrared Sauna Detoxification
By B Matheson
Sauna's aren't just for relaxation anymore. With the introduction of the infrared technology into the mainstream there is an entire new holistic healing application for their use. Infrared saunas detoxification properties are second to none and are able to reverse and rejuvenate many health issues we struggle with both internally and externally.

Let's look at three detoxification benefits you get from infrared sauna therapy.
1.) Skin rejuvenation: Our skin takes a beating during daily life, from the chlorine in our shower water to the chemicals we come in contact every day our skin is continually going through changes. The skin is the largest organ in the body, therefore it should be taken care of. Infrared sauna use restores elimination through the skin and helps bring back your natural glow.
2.) Decongestion: And I don't mean just your sinuses. Time in an infrared sauna pushes blood flow towards the skin to reduce internal heat. This decongests internal organs and increases circulation benefiting all internal tissues.
3.) Benefits of Exercise: Without having to leave your seat on the bench inside an infrared sauna your body receives many of the benefits of cardiovascular exercise. Consistent use of a sauna can improve your arteries elasticity and aid in the reduction of high blood pressure.
The properties of infrared sauna detoxification are to great to ignore. In a world where many people are looking to holistic methods to help heal their illnesses, infrared sauna therapy is an inexpensive, safe, and healthy activity that offers far more benefits then just relaxation.
Infrared saunas are available at many health clinics, as well as health clubs. If you'd like to give infrared sauna detoxification a try then ask your family doctor if they know where you can gain access to an infrared sauna. If all else fails, the cost of infrared saunas is coming down every day, and even Home Depot is carrying them, consider getting an infrared home sauna kit for your own personal use.

Spa Safety
Spa Safety Tips
By Jen Carter
Water balance and sanitizer has to be maintained:
Make it a point to ensure that the water is healthy and free of any form of harmful microorganisms before you actually enter a spa. This can be done by regularly shocking the water and the maintenance of the total alkalinity and pH of water for controlling bacteria in the water.
Sanitizer levels, TA and pH can be monitored by using the appropriate test strips. There is also a bacteria test available now for testing for bacteria in the spa water.

Storage of Chemicals & Spa Supplies:
It is important that additives, cleaning compounds and chemicals used in the spa are stored in a cool, dry and ventilated spot. In addition to this, it should be placed away from direct sunlight, and way out of reach of children. Remember to always read and follow the directions found on chemical labels.
All spa chemicals should not be mixed before adding to the spa water. Instead, you have to dissolve the dry chemicals one at a time, in clean water in a plastic bucket. It is only now that you can pour this bucket of water and chemicals into the hot tub. This is done to prevent possible damage to the acrylic shell or PVC liner of the spa which arises from direct contact to the undissolved granules of the chemicals.
Consumption of Alcohol and Drugs in the spa:
It is dangerous taking alcohol and drugs when in the spa as the hot water tends to amplify the effects of the alcohol and drugs. This may lead to dangerous consequences. So if you take drugs, consult your doctor for directions on the right use of prescription drugs in the spa. Instead of taking alcohol, many people prefer drinking a chilled soft drink, mineral water or juice when relaxing in the spa.
The right Water Temperature:
The National Spa and Pool Institute states that 104 degrees F is the maximum hot water temperature for your spa. Sitting for long periods in water with higher temperatures tends to lead to rising of the body heat to dangerous levels. This is why the modern spas are usually set at the factory, to not exceed this limit.
The recommended soaking time and temperature is not more than 15 minutes at 100 to 102 degrees F. and with children and infants being more sensitive to heat, the ideal water temperature for them is not more than 95 degrees F, for no longer than 10 minutes.
People suffering form high or low blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or any other serious health conditions should consult, and obtain the advice of a physician before doing so. To find out the ideal temperature of the spa, place a floating thermometer in the spa if it does not have a digital temperature readout indicator.
Precautions for Children and Infants:
If children and infants are to enter into a spa, they have to be introduced slowly so that they have time to adjust to the change of temperature without any fear or discomfort. Children should never be left unattended in hot tubs, spas or pools. A few minutes in even a shallow pool or spa is sufficient for a drowning hazard to take place. Remember, prevention is always better than cure.
Pregnancy and spas:
It is not at all advisable for pregnant women to enter a hot tub or spa without a consultation with their physician.
Dangers of hair entanglement:
It is possible for a drowning risk to occur with a bather's hair getting entangled in a drain cover, when hair and water draws down the drain. This is why children, or anyone for that matter, should not play with their heads placed underwater in a spa.
To prevent this, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has helped in the development of the requirement for dome shaped drain outlets in a spa, with two outlets to be used for each pump. With this, the powerful suction that arises with a blocked drain is reduced. So those with old spas have to have these new drain covers installed, and perhaps get a spa with two drains for prevention of entrapment in the drain. This applies to swimming pools as well.
To ensure that the spa remains in good, and safe working condition, and that drain covers are not cracked or missing, have regular professional checks on the spa. You have to check to ensure that the drain is covered throughout the year. Have a GFCI protected power disconnect device installed for the spa, and learn where and how to use it in emergencies.
About the Power Cutoff Switch:
It is important to install a manual disconnect device for the spa at a minimum of 5 ft and a maximum of 15 ft from the spa, for your safety. Also make it a point to check local codes.
Electrical Devices in the spa:
For safety reasons, corded phones, TVs, hair dryers, radios and other electrical devices would not be handled when in spas or pools or when in contact with water with wet hands or legs. Make sure that all electrical outlets are located at a safe distance from the spa or hot tub, following local building codes. Electrical devices should be kept away from the water, and never on the edge of the spa. This is because if an electrical appliance falls into the water, or is touched by a wet person, possible electrocution results.
Importance of a Spa Cover:
The spa has to be covered with a locked safety cover when the spa is not used. Children should always be kept away from spas, unless under adult supervision. Remember that unsupervised spas are attractive to curious small children; so keep the spa covered tightly with cover straps that prevent the slipping of the child into the spa. Replace the spa cover when necessary. You can install a pair of extra tie down straps for added security around the spa.
Importance of Safety Rails & Steps:
Spa steps and handrails are required for help when getting in and out of hot tubs with wet and slippery feet. With a towel bar, you can ensure that dry towels are available for feet and hands. For added safety, you could have a non-skid surface around the parameter of the spa. To avoid accidents with broken glass, snacks and drinks can be served in plastic containers when in the spa. There should be adequate lighting at ground level, at nighttime.
Benefits of a Tub Together:
Adults soaking together is always a wiser and more entertaining option in a spa. This is because with one or more partners, you are sure someone is there if you have a problem in the spa. Of course, children should always be accompanied when in the spa.
